Robotics: advanced devices and applications in services and industry
After a few decades of technological development in the industrial field, robots are extensively used also in applications outside the production environment, such as medicine, entertainment, surveillance, exploration of hostile and unstructured environments, etc. In these contexts it is necessary to develop robotic solutions integrating in a synergic way the design of the mechanical parts, actuation, sensors and control system.
Currently, the main research areas developed by the group are: anthropomorphic robotic hands; manipulation of deformable objects; gripping and handling devices for underwater applications; control of autonomous flying and mobile robots (teams and individuals); intrinsically safe robots for interaction with human operators; remote manipulation; innovative sensors and actuators. Mobile robot applications are also developed in the fields of monitoring, intervention and surveillance, agriculture, transport and mobility. Especially in the field of automation for agriculture, the robotics group is particularly active and collaborates with the agriculture department for the development of innovative solutions based on robots to optimize and maximize productivity.
