National funding programmes

Projects of relevant national interest (PRIN)

The Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) has launched a funding allocation mechanism, based on specific key points: co-financing, team work and peer evaluation ("peer review"). The aim is to contribute to the strengthening of national scientific bases. Each year, the Ministry of Education issues a call for the financing of PRIN projects on a three-year basis.

Basic Research Investment Fund (FIRB)

FIRB promotes the growth of knowledge and strengthens its competitive capacity by funding basic research activities with a high scientific and technological content, also with an international dimension. In addition, in order to promote generational change and strengthen national scientific bases, the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) annually issues the "Future in Research" call, allocating resources to fund fundamental research projects, fall within any of the scientific fields defined by the European Research Council, proposed by young researchers under 40.

Fund for Scientific and Technological Research (FIRST)

The FIRST funding programme of MIUR supports the basic research activities carried out by universities and public research bodies, using the funds available from the Investment Fund for Scientific and Technological Research (FIRST).
Projects may cover any field of research.

The Emilia-Romagna Regional Operational Programme is the document which defines the strategy and interventions for the use of the European resources allocated to the Region by the European Regional Development Fund, within the framework of cohesion policy, for the economic growth and attractiveness of the territory.

Three-year regional plan "High competencies for Research, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship"

The Emilia-Romagna Region has approved the three-year plan 'High Competences for Research, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship', a strategy for the programming of the resources of the European Structural Funds for investment in order to promote training and skills-building in a way that is strategic to regional development policies. The intervention measures include PhD scholarships, university masters, training courses and research grants.
