Abstract
As per ISO 26262, the Functional Safety is part of the overall safety of a system. The goal is to assure that the system operates correctly (despite likely operator errors, faults, and adverse environmental conditions), and free from unacceptable risk of injury or damage to people and goods. The seminar will introduce the Functional Safety and describe its connections with the Control System Theory. In more detail, the modelling of the system comprehensive of driver, control and monitoring systems, and the concept of controllability play a key role in the evaluation of the safety levels. Comments on made experiences and the description of future challenges will enrich the presentation.
About the speaker
Emilio Comignaghi graduated in Electronic Engineering, Automation Systems, in 1989 at the Politecnico di Milano. After an internship in Siemens Telecommunications, he worked since 1990 at the Engines Dept of the Fiat Research Center in Orbassano (TO) where he patented a new onboard vehicle catalyst diagnosis system to meet the US MY94 OBD2 regulations. After an experience in 1995 in Fiat Automoveis (FIASA) in Brazil, he moved first in 1997 to Fiat Auto in Torino and then in 2001 in Arese (MI), as responsible for new high performances gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine control systems of new Fiat-GM Powertrain joint venture for Alfa Romeo, Lancia and GM models. In 2009 he moved to Fiat Powertrain Technologies in Torino, as responsible for heavy-duty common-rail Diesel V6 Cursor engines control system for industrial applications. In 2014 he joined Maserati in Modena first as leader of the team responsible for the development of the new 4 and V6 cylinders GDI engines control systems and since 2018 as leader of the new Maserati Functional Safety team. Since 2020 he’s been the leader of the Vehicle Controls Functional Safety team responsible for the safety analyses and requirements of all in-house developed vehicle dynamics control systems for all Maserati and FCA models.
