Abstract

In our modern society, massive digital content is being transferred between different digital applications using wireless access technologies. As radio access is considered as an increasingly reliable service, totally new usage scenarios have been emerging very recently. Here are some examples: vehicle-to-vehicle communication networks or remotely controlled robot applications. All of these usage scenarios require responsive and reliable high-capacity communication systems. The utilization of the available spectrum at millimeter-wave frequencies is one of the promising solutions. However, the design and deployment of mmWave communication systems present several unique challenges arising from the relatively unfavorable radio wave propagation at these frequencies. This talk is a concise recollection of the corresponding research activities by Vasilii Semkin with a specific emphasis on communication challenges at mmWave frequencies.
