About the speaker

Marko Höyhtyä is Research Professor at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd., focusing on satellite communications and situational awareness technologies. He received the D.Sc. (Tech.) degree in telecommunication engineering from the University of Oulu, where he holds title of a docent (associate professor). He is an associate professor at the National Defence University as well. He was a Visiting Researcher at the Berkeley Wireless Research Center, CA, from 2007 to 2008, and a Visiting Research Fellow with the European Space Research and Technology Centre, the Netherlands, in 2019. His research interests include space technologies, critical communications, 6G networks, and autonomous systems.

Abstract

During this talk I will tell shortly about 6G research in Finland and specifically at VTT, describing our activities in space and building an advanced test network environment that we are also operating in several locations in Finland. The main focus in the talk is in the satellite communications research, covering recent projects and activities done in 5G and 6G fields. You will learn about our experimental satellite W-Cube and propagation experiments, joint communication and sensing activities to detect space debris with satellite-based 5G communication signals, dynamic spectrum management activities and description of the on-going satellite IoT project for which we are seeking collaboration and joint publication activities.
